Ghana eVisa 2026: How to Apply Online, Requirements & Step-by-Step Guide

Ghana’s eVisa system has made the visa application process more convenient for eligible travellers who need permission to enter Ghana. Launched in May 2026, the new system allows visa applications to be handled online and is designed to make the process more efficient and transparent.

In this guide, we explain what the Ghana eVisa is, who may need one, the documents you may need, how the application process works, and what to know before travelling to Ghana. Because visa and entry requirements can change, travellers should always confirm the latest information from official Ghana government sources before making travel arrangements.

What Is the Ghana eVisa?

Ghana’s eVisa is part of Ghana’s newer digital visa system, which allows eligible travellers to complete visa-related processes online rather than relying entirely on traditional paper-based procedures.

Ghana introduced its eVisa platform in May 2026 as part of efforts to make visa processing more efficient, transparent, and convenient. The Ghana Immigration Service says the platform supports online applications, secure payments and electronic visa authorizations.

However, not every traveller needs a visa to enter Ghana. Visa requirements depend on factors such as nationality, passport type and the purpose of travel. Some nationals are exempt under Ghana’s visa regime, so travellers should confirm their individual requirements before making travel arrangements.

Ghana eVisa Requirements

The exact requirements for a Ghana eVisa can vary depending on the applicant’s nationality, visa type, and purpose of travel. The official Ghana eVisa portal provides a nationality-specific eligibility check and displays the documents required for the application.

In general, applicants should be prepared to provide:

  • A valid passport that is valid for at least six months beyond the intended stay in Ghana.

  • A recent, clear, coloured passport-sized photograph that meets the required visa photo guidelines.

  • Supporting documents appropriate to the purpose of travel, such as an invitation letter or business documentation where applicable.

  • Travel information, including intended travel dates, purpose of the visit, and accommodation arrangements.

  • An active email address for application notifications and delivery of the approved eVisa.

  • A valid payment method for the applicable visa fee.

For tourism applications, the official portal may also require travel itinerary details and proof of accommodation, such as a hotel reservation or the address of a host in Ghana. Business applicants may be asked for additional documents, including a business invitation and company documentation.

Because requirements can differ by nationality and visa type, applicants should use the official Ghana eVisa portal to check the requirements that apply to their specific application before submitting their documents.

How to Apply for a Ghana eVisa Online

Applying for a Ghana eVisa is completed online through the official Ghana eVisa portal operated by the Ghana Immigration Service in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Before starting the application, applicants should first check their eligibility by selecting their nationality on the official portal. The requirements displayed can vary depending on nationality and the type of visa being requested.

Applicants should have their required documents ready before beginning the application. These may include a valid passport, recent passport-sized photograph, supporting documents, travel details, an active email address, and a valid payment method. Tourism and business applicants may have additional supporting-document requirements.

Once the application has been completed and the required payment has been made, applicants should keep their application reference information and monitor the email address used during the application for updates.

Step 1: Check Your Eligibility

Before beginning an application, applicants should check their nationality on the official Ghana eVisa portal to determine whether a visa is required and which requirements apply.

The official portal provides a nationality-based eligibility check, because visa requirements can differ depending on the applicant’s nationality and the type of visa requested.

Step 2: Create Your eVisa Account

Eligible applicants should create an account on the official Ghana eVisa portal using their email address. When entering personal information, names should be entered exactly as they appear on the passport biodata page.

Step 3: Prepare Your Documents

Before starting the application, prepare the documents and information required for your particular application.

Depending on the visa type, the official portal may require:

  • A passport valid for at least six months beyond the intended stay in Ghana

  • A recent, clear, coloured passport photograph

  • Supporting documents relevant to the purpose of travel

  • Travel dates and accommodation information

  • An active email address

  • A valid payment method

For tourism applications, the portal lists travel itinerary and proof of accommodation. Business applications may require additional documents such as a business invitation and company registration documents.

Step 4: Complete the Online Application

Once you have confirmed your eligibility and prepared the required information, complete the Ghana eVisa application through the official online portal.

Applicants should enter their personal, passport and travel information carefully and upload the documents requested for their particular application.

Make sure the information you enter matches your passport and other supporting documents.

Step 5: Pay and Submit

After completing the required application information and uploading the requested documents, applicants can make the applicable payment using an accepted payment method available through the official portal. The portal currently lists debit/credit card and mobile money as payment methods.

Before submitting, carefully review the information and documents provided. Keep your application reference information after submission so that you can track the application if needed.

The Ghana eVisa portal currently offers different processing speeds depending on the service selected:

  • Standard: within 96 hours — US$260 total

  • Priority: within 48 hours — US$338 total

  • Express: within 5 hours — US$442 total

Processing times are based on the service selected during the application. Applicants should allow sufficient time for processing and should check the official portal for the applicable service and fee before submitting their application.

Visa fees are displayed on the official eVisa portal during the application process and may change. Applicants should confirm the applicable fee before making payment.

Step 6: Track Your Application

After submitting your application, applicants can use their application reference number to check the status of their Ghana eVisa application through the official tracking page. A verification code is sent to the registered email address before the application status is displayed.

Step 7: Receive Your eVisa

If the application is approved, the electronic visa authorization is delivered to the email address associated with the application. The official portal states that the approved eVisa can be presented digitally or in printed form at Ghana’s ports of entry.

Important: Visa Approval Does Not Guarantee Entry

A Ghana eVisa allows a traveller to travel to Ghana for the purpose and period specified, but visa approval does not by itself guarantee admission into Ghana. Final entry decisions are made by immigration officers at the port of entry.

Before You Travel to Ghana

Before travelling, make sure you have your passport, approved eVisa and required supporting documents available. Travellers should also carry their Yellow Fever vaccination card, which is required at the port of entry.

Check that your intended travel date falls within the validity period of your visa and confirm the duration of stay granted.
